The Secret Cup

The Secret Cup

The Secret Cup is a very different event, because NOT ONLY do we go all over the USA and even internationally to determine the best hash makers and cannabis growers, but we also have them MEET IN THE FINALS to determine one final champion.  Thats not all, the varieties and styles of cannabis and hash also go head to head and the competitors in The Secret Cup are also the judges, they all compete evenly all year.  Obviously we do not allow them to vote for themselves and we also monitor the process very closely to make sure there are no alliances or anything else that would impact the result.  We rely heavily on the serious approach many participants take in addition to their efforts to keep their options and judgements honest and based solely on the samples.  The competitors each must purchase their entry position, then on a date provided they must drop off their samples in the weights and containers they are instructed to use.  The samples are randomly labeled and arranged in kits for distribution to the competitors the following day.  They will have a few days from that point to test their samples privately or in a centralized home base location with the other competitors, in places we are able to have one, where they can relax, network and converse more openly and freely.  The following weekend the voting is concluded and the results are awarded.

Competitors are the ONLY judges!

You will never be judged by simply a handful of our friends, girlfriends, models, vendors, sponsors or so called experts.  We also don’t sell the ability to vote or be a judge.

We rely on the participants desire to have an authentic result.  In order to obtain that result it requires the voting to be completely honest.  The best judges take the competition very seriously and make fair judgements of their peers in each category based simply on the qualities of the sample provided.  We keep careful watch over the voting process nonetheless.

In fact, only a very few people truly belong within frame of this picture—a snapshot from the public expo that accompanies the Secret Cup, a sort of mini-version of a High Times Cannabis Cup and expo, only this one is devoted solely to artisanal hash makers. Organizers say frankly that their event doesn’t make much money. “It’s all about the 30 local and national extract artists who get together in each city,” says co-founder Jeremy Norrie, for the purpose of smoking and judging each other’s products—and advancing their art in the quickly morphing field of extracting concentrates. No mere smokefest, there are all the trappings of a bonafide trial—grading sheets, a website for tabulating scores, anonymous entries. –

The Secret Cup is a cultural event series that brings the hash community closer together and allows purists the chance to find today’s best and most healthy products. Different from all other cannabis competitions, this event is all about the hash makers. “It’s an event unlike any of the others in that it’s for the people that are really connoisseurs, folks that are really into the culture,” said HighDro, Hip Hop Artist.

The Secret Cup is truly different because the contestants are also the judges. “A day after you submit your entry you get back a .3 of every entry you’re competing against. The entries are anonymous and numbered and each competitor then becomes responsible for judging and scoring the entire field of competition. Each competitor/judge receives an identical judge pack that includes their own entry, although no votes cast for your own entry count. We do this to make it harder to figure out who made what and also to force the hash maker to see their work next to everyone else’s,”said Daniel de Sailles, Founder. The top three overall highest scoring contestants of the Secret Cup will each receive a prize package and an invitation to compete in the finals.

For the Wooks, attending the Secret Cup is like attending a high-level trade show. (For legal reasons, the finals are considered a private party.) It’s sort of a March Madness for extractors — not the only such contest in the world, but maybe the most exclusive. The regional winners were going to be present at the finals as well as some of the winners from the previous year. In all there would be 20 entrants. Bragging rights and future contracts were at stake. If Skywalker and the others want to compete in their rapidly growing field, they need to be known, to be intimate with the doings and players in their industry, to cultivate an aura of insider success.

Experience Other Places

We frequently travel all over the USA and occasionally Internationally as well.  The places we go all have very progressive cannabis laws and an amazing community.  One of the most wonderful things about attending our events is the opportunity to really enjoy the cities we are lucky enough to experience.
